Last night I thought I was done with the Princess X revisions. And well, mostly I was right – I’d gone through all 100+ pages of the existing content, rewritten from first-person POV to third-person, spackled in a bunch of new information, and generally massaged the thing into its new shape; but upon sitting down to work today, I realized I wasn’t fully ready to charge forward.
In short, much of the content is new, and it’s fresh – but still a little unfamiliar – and I’m not 100% confident yet that it all falls seamlessly into place. Look, I’m not just swapping pronouns and verbs here – I’m changing the inherent nature of the piece, and I want it to feel right.
Therefore: one more pass. I got about a third of the way through today, and I would’ve gotten farther except that I did a LOT of smoothing, combing, tweaking, and fine-tuning … which validated my “I need to revisit this” instincts, I suppose.
My goal at the moment is to resume new composition work by Monday, if not sooner. But I want to build those new words on a solid-as-hell foundation, so I’m not going to rush it.
I have time. Not all the time in the world, but enough time all the same.
In other news, all is well here at home and the critters are fine and dandy. DragonCon was a week ago, and in another week (or so) I’ll be headed down to SIBA in New Orleans, which will be nice – though yes, it’ll kind of break up my work flow. Or my production flow, anyway. These conferences are part of the job, after all.
When I return, I’ll need to shift gears back into the Maplecroft revisions, for that draft is due in the middle of October. Then back to Princess X, and then onward and upward to Jacaranda – barring any production deadlines, proofs, edits, and whatnot on the things which are in process. With a little luck, I should have everything in on deadline or even a bit ahead of it.
We shall see. But for now, please pardon me if I’m somewhat internet-quiet, except for the occasional tweet or FB post. I’m trying to be a good girl and limit my internet intake. Amazingly, there seems to be some correlation with my output…
