Here’s today’s progress on my fifth Clockwork Century novel – a book about teenage juvenile delinquents, hypothetical ghosts, and gangland mayhem within the walled city of Seattle … now with Bonus! zombie Sasquatch and the return of everyone’s favorite elderly cross-dressing Native American princess:

    Project: Inexplicables
    Deadline: September 15, 2011
New words written: 2933 (not bad, except it’s a 2-day total)
Present total word count: 46,512 words

Things accomplished in real life: Lots of writer business this morning, the kind that somehow eats a huge chunk of the day; got some seriously strange personal news, but won’t be talking about it here; tidied apartment; made lunch and cleaned up after it; talked to the husband when he came home from work unexpectedly; considered taking a flame-thrower to the construction workers behind my building, because they won’t turn that goddamn radio down, or off, or whatever, and I shouldn’t be able to hear it half a block away while my television’s on.

Other: Yesterday and today have both been feeble writing days, but at least I’m still moving forward. I’m calling the word count quite early, obviously – but that’s partly because I have errands to run, and then a meeting this afternoon. MOAR BUSINESS. Thank God I’ve got a temporary day-job reprieve, though that’ll change come August (if not sooner). Crunch time will hit me from all sides before long, and these piddly word counts won’t cut it. I’ll try to write more tonight. We’ll see how that goes.

Total narrative fiction word count for 2011: 46,512 words
