Here’s today’s progress on my fifth Clockwork Century novel – a book about teenage juvenile delinquents, hypothetical ghosts, and gangland mayhem within the walled city of Seattle … now with Bonus! zombie Sasquatch and the return of everyone’s favorite elderly cross-dressing Native American princess:

    Project: Inexplicables
    Deadline: September 15, 2011
New words written: 2754 (not bad for a weekend day)
Present total word count: 43,279 words

Things accomplished in real life: Slept in due to rain – the construction work outside could not begin at its usual 7:00 a.m., so I carpe’d that diem; took a couple of phone calls; answered a few emails (important and otherwise); not much else, honestly.

Things accomplished in fiction: Got a job offer. It kind of sucks, but what can you do?

Next up: Testing our salesman skills.

Other: I’d intended to use this as a “day off” – just to give myself a break – but yesterday’s utter word count failure meant I really needed to bang out a few lines to keep up with the flow. I told myself I’d settle for 1500 words, but then I got on a roll, which was nice. Now to run an errand or two, and wait for the husband to get home so we can see about supper.

Total narrative fiction word count for 2011: 43,279 words

    Hello.

The other day you mentioned you finished a proposal for a Clockwork Century book set in D.C. Is that the same story you mentioned in the Clarkesworld interview, the one that would end the Civil War?
