Bloodshot: You Can Have It

Posted on | 1 year ago, just before lunchtime | 20 Comments

Today is the day, people — the wait is over! Obsessive-Compulsive vampires! Cuban-American drag queens! Men In Black! Government conspiracies! Foul language! Adventure! Dirty jokes! SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!

Yes, on this fine morning my very first urban fantasy officially lands in bookstores — brick-and-mortar, ebook vendors, audiobook suppliers, and all other venues through which one might wish to acquire a story about a former flapper and daughter of a Pinkerton detective turned undead jewel thief with a bitchy, spangled sidekick.

If any of this sounds like it might be up your alley, I sure do hope I can persuade you to pick up a copy in the format of your choice, from your preferred book purveyor, at your earliest convenience. For you see, this was a hella-fun project and I, for one, would love to see this become a longer series than is presently scheduled.

One sequel is definitely coming (Hellbent, slated for the end of August); but the better (and faster) Bloodshot sells, the greater are the odds that Bantam will want to publish more of them down the line. IT IS MATH. You can’t argue with math.

So! If you are uncertain about something as far removed from what I usually write as oh, say, disco and adorable homeless punk children and parkour addicts named “Trevor” … you can always take this opportunity to go read a FREE SAMPLE of this book right here at suvudu.com

Go on. Click. Read it. I’ll wait.
[:: twiddles thumbs ::]
You back now? Want to take a chance on it?

Want to find out what’s going on with that blind vampire? The covert warehouse? The stubborn squatters? The super secret government program and its batch of supernatural subjects? Well then. Allow me to be of assistance!

And thank you SO MUCH everyone, everywhere, for reading. Thanks to everyone who got an early peek and passed this book around or blogged about it; to all the Amazon Vine members who took the time to review it on that site; and to all the Goodreads folks who likewise threw their opinions into the interwebs.

The encouragement has been invaluable, and I’m just so freaking grateful for all the support … and relieved, and excited, because now it’s out there for real — and I hope the rest of you will give this cheerfully weird little book a chance.

…yikes. So, with all those ideas, I presume the book is 1000 pages long and you’ll never have to write a book again. A big time-saver, really.

my local bookseller was very exicted when I bought a copy this weekend. I think he’ll be handselling it to lots of customers.

I read the first 50 pages, I like it and I want to buy it for my iPhone (epub without Adobe DRM) but I can’t from France. Is there any means to legally acquire it ?

Honestly Alex, I have no idea. But thanks for taking a stab at a legal acquisition – it’s appreciated!

OK… Vampire’s are not my thing. However, I read the cover for this one, and since I’m loving the writting in the Clockwork Century novels, I thought I’d give it a go. Pre-ordered and it arrived yesterday… only problem is, I have to finish my current book before Bloodshot, and my wife has now spotted it and thinks she may enjoy it… so it’s a race as to who finishes their current book first!

Yes, well, it is good to support the authors we like :-). I’ll ask the editor of “Boneshaker” french translations (www.eclipse.fr), maybe they know something.

Anyway, it is frustrating with the Internet in 2011 when you want to buy a 1MB file and you can’t because I don’t live in the US… instead I may import the paper edition if I want ? Something is not right :-(

I mean, I just checked on amazon.com, the paperback edition is $10.80 and the Kindle one is $13.79 ? Come on, it makes you think it is cheaper to cut trees than to host a file… Makes me sad…

Sorry for the rant, I know very well it is not your fault and it is all about distribution rights and co. I read the blog post of @tobiasbuckell you retweeted yesterday and (from a customer POV) I also think he is right.

Cherie, I broke my longstanding policy of never spending a dime on DRM’ed content because I couldn’t wait any longer to get my hands on Bloodshot. I stripped the DRM immediately (Alex, there are dead easy Calibre plugins for this if you manage to buy one and need a hand) but still cast down my eyes in shame. Fortunately, that’s the direction where the iPhone with my instant-gratification copy of Bloodshot awaits. :-)

I own all of your Clockwork Century books on paper, and will probably end up with this one eventually as well. I just had this Borders card, but no stores nearby, and the mail would take *days*… :-)

Finally, I was able to buy it from Kobobooks.com, with a French address and credit card. Cool! So Cherie, if anyone else asks, you know now what to say :-)

Hendel, thanks for the help, my main problem was to find a store which sells internationally, I know there are ways around DRM. In the mean time I bought a cheap eBook reader which uses Adobe DRM, I will probably read the book on it.

The DRM thing really is an issue for me – I hate supporting publishers and stores that insist on it, but at the same time want to support the *authors*, who generally have no influence on the decision (Cory Doctorow being a rare exception). I’m growing increasingly addicted to ebooks, but am not willing to give up all the benefits of physically owning a book.

(About 1/3 into Bloodshot and enjoying it very much, BTW).
