Whew! What a day it’s been – and all in all, a very fine bookday for Dreadnought. Thanks again (many times over) to everyone who was kind enough to endorse, repost, retweet, and link the previous blog entry – you’re 100% awesome, each and every one, and I’m terribly, terribly grateful.
Of course, when it rains, it pours. In addition to the news of Dreadnought‘s release, I was also greeted with two new bits of groovy news – as follows:
- Editora Underworld has officially picked up Brazilian translation/publication rights for both Boneshaker and Dreadnought – making this Dreadnought‘s first official foreign rights sale, on its birthday and everything :)
- Clementine arrives in ebook form – Click that-there link for the Kindle listing (where it’s being offered for $2.99), and I am led to believe that it will debut in other digital formats sooner rather than later. I’ll keep you posted as I know more.
[:: throws confetti ::]
And … because no matter how busy the day gets, at this point I absolutely must get some writing done every single day between now and November first …
Here’s today’s progress on my Hunley version 4.0 submarine book about Andan Cly and his crew having a damp misadventure in a Texian-occupied New Orleans, plus Bonus! guerrilla warfare, other assorted historic pirates, and an octoroon madam who moonlights as a Union spy.
Project: Ganymede
Deadline: November 1, 2010
New words written: 2501 (marginally respectable)
Present total word count: 82,009 words
Things accomplished in fiction: Things were very, very tense.
Things accomplished in real life: Day-job work; interview with a nice fellow via phone; wandered through my internet presence correcting my bios, updating my links, and tweaking all those little things that change when a new book comes out; processed (checks gmail real quick) approximately 200 emails re: same book’s debut; received and sorted new day-job project; went to postal shop and mailed a handful of packages (mostly books); went to Walgreens for supplies and hydrocortisone cream following a vicious spider attack that left me looking like I had chicken pox; did laundry including bedding; went to supper with husband and had celebratory mai-tai.
Other: I’ve officially tweaked the status/goal bar. Draft Zero of this book will easily run 120,000-130,000 words. The final product will be smaller, yes, but it will take at least that much to get it complete.
Total Official Word Count of 2010: 210,620 words

I will have Clementine in my hot little hands 5 minutes after I deposit my paycheck Thursday. (first one in over a year. Yay!!!!!!) Dreadnought will be mine as quickly as the USPS can get it to me. It may be Thanksgiving before I have time to read them but they will be mine. Oh yes, they WILL be mine.

Sorry to hear about the spider bite. I got bit in the foot by a black widow and it swelled up HUGE in 5 minutes and hurt like a MFer. It took a long time to heal. I hope you’re feeling better soon.
I read Dreadnought chapter 1 (off the publisher’s site) on iPod during son’s football practice. I got the book in the mail today from my Amazon pre-order. I have 20 more pages to finish in Doc Savage #18 and then on to Dreadnought. I haven’t been this excited to read a book since, I don’t know… Clementine!
Cheers! Happy Book Day!

Cool pic at the Hyatt bar! I was staying at the Hyatt and spent a goodly amount of time at the bar. I think your hair looks great!

I stayed up an hour past my bedtime last night finishing Dreadnought – my mistake for picking it up to read “just a couple of pages” when I was right before the Provo pass scene. :) I loved it! I was almost holding my breath through the whole scene and then just had to finish it up. The sleepies today are totally worth the enjoyment. :)

I discovered my local book store doesn’t have a copy of Dreadnought yet.
My face is the saddest.

Is anyone else having problems getting the kindle edition of clementine? It says that it is currently unavailable.
September 29th, 2010 @ 7:51 pm
I know that those outside the USA can’t get it, otherwise I haven’t heard any problems…? But Amazon is funny, sometimes.
I’m not sure why it’s USA only; probably something to do with the foreign distribution/rights/whatnot. Or maybe it’s up to Amazon, since the Kindle is their thingy.

Is Clementine going to be available in ePub format for those of us who don’t have a Kindle? If so, which stores?

Hey Bruce – and yes, it will be. I don’t know all the details yet, only that it’s taking a little extra time for the formats to process elsewhere. Will post when I know more.
