Here’s the weekend’s progress on my Hunley version 4.0 submarine book about Andan Cly and his crew having a damp misadventure in a Texian-occupied New Orleans, plus Bonus! guerrilla warfare, other assorted historic pirates, and an octoroon madam who moonlights as a Union spy.

Project: Ganymede
Deadline: November 1, 2010
New words written: 2646 (better)
Present total word count: 72,682 words




Things accomplished in fiction: Got the Ganymede 101, or 411, or whatever other numerical indication of information best suits you. Didn’t get to take it on a test run yet. That’ll be the next sequence, I think. Or maybe not.

Things accomplished in real life: Day-job work; daily run/climb; went to Walgreens to pick up prescription; sorted out scads of writer business stuff; chatted with very nice folks about the particulars and arrangements of upcoming events and the like; accidentally took nap; awoke horrified with self.

Other: Holy shit, y’all. I’m getting sick. I suspected as much when I got up this morning – sore throat, too much congestion, something felt “off.” But the afternoon’s mild fever pretty much confirms it. BUT NEVER FEAR. I have vitamin C bombs, lots of tea, and NO TIME TO BE SICK over the next two months. So since this falls outside my schedule it clearly MUST NOT HAPPEN. At least VCon is still over a week away, so there should be time to quarantine myself and kill the hell out of this bug before then.

Return of Other: I’m quitting my composition a little early today (only a little; it’s about 5:00 here) because I have a backlog of YET MOAR EMAILS that must be attended to, including an interview or two and some fairly important stuff that needs to be poked with a stick before business hours tomorrow. But depending on how I’m feeling later, I might well come back and get some more work done this evening. Heck, a good thousand words of today’s count was written last night, after all. It could happen!

Bride of Other: Lookie! My writer-odometer rolled over! I’ve officially written over 200,000 words in 2010 … the vast majority of it (probably 175,000 of it) Since June. Hot damn …
