Here are today’s stats on my second urban fantasy adventure — this time with my neurotic undead thief, her shady agent, a cigar box full of magical penis bones, a mentally ill former NASA engineer-turned-sorceress, and the continued fabulosity of a Cuban drag queen:
Deadline: August 9, 2010
New words written: 1612 (bah.)
Present total word count: 80,320 words
Things accomplished in fiction: Waved bon voyage to a troublesome new friend; began rehearsal and prep for the big show in Atlanta.
Things accomplished in real life: Day-job work; picked up new contacts (which actually came in yesterday); went to Walgreens; tidied household; took a 3-hour nap; drank a YooHoo for the first time in ages.
Other: Today’s wordcount is shit partly because I spent much of the day in a fog. I woke up around dawn with a godawful hayfever attack, so I got up and did some dayjob work since it’s not like I could sleep anyway; then, once (a). the Zyrtec kicked in, and (b). I achieved one of my milestones in the dayjob project, I went back to bed. I didn’t get up until after one o’clock, and when I did, I was virtually useless for a couple of hours. I have no idea what was wrong – if I’m starting to get sick, or if just this once the Zyrtec kicked my ass (it usually doesn’t…?). But today was very nearly a waste.
Other, redux: A couple of hours ago I finally pulled myself together and sat down to crank out some sentences. I decided I’d crest 80K and let myself off the hook, and that’s basically what I did. It’s okay. I’m still on track to finish a draft of this by the end of the month.
