I’ll be the first to admit I’ve been a little distracted lately (glances at two most recent posts) … but that doesn’t mean that I’m not working. As I believe I’ve mentioned already, if all goes according to plan, I’ll have two full novels to write by the end of this year. Yes, that’s the plan. Because I’m just crazy, I guess. Crazy, and in need of money, and kind of excited about both books.

Anyway, never mind that it’s been a weekend. People who live and die by deadlines don’t get weekends. We accidentally get days off when we fall asleep on the couch, that’s all; and then we feel guilty about it, because if we don’t average X number of words per day, we won’t make our deadlines.

So here are the recent stats on my second urban fantasy adventure — this time with my neurotic undead thief, her shady agent, a cigar box full of magical penis bones, a mentally ill former NASA engineer-turned-sorceress, and the continued fabulosity of a Cuban drag queen:

Project: Hellbent
Deadline: August 9, 2010
New words written: 3158 (kind of crap for the weekend, but not terrible)
Present total word count: 22,562 words

Things accomplished in fiction: Gave up and went home. Got some potentially bad news. Sulked about it.

Things accomplished in real life: Cleaned house some, left some for husband; did research and a smidge of leisure reading (so sue me); exchanged some family and business emails; printed out maps and directions for the school I’m going to visit tomorrow (a middle school English class read Boneshaker for a project and invited me to come and talk to the students); went to Walgreens for beverages and to pick up prescription.

Other: Tesla Rex the Mad Red Betta Fish has begun building his bubble nests. They are frankly kind of a mess, but we are cooing over him regardless. The kitty is jealous, at least until she gets her tummy rubbed.

Other, redux: Tonight I’m going out for drinks with Ellen and Suezie at some place which sells unicorn balls deep fried, or something. Hey, I’ll try anything once.

Total Official Word Count of 2010: 46,279 words
