Here are today’s stats on my second urban fantasy adventure — this time with my neurotic undead thief, her shady agent, a cigar box full of magical penis bones, a mentally ill former NASA engineer-turned-sorceress, and the continued fabulosity of a Cuban drag queen:

Deadline: August 9, 2010
New words written: 2019
Present total word count: 17,098 words

Things accomplished in fiction: Almost blew up. Got peed on by a kitten.

Things accomplished in real life: Day-job work; went to postal place and shipped Bloodshot copyedits back to editor; went shopping this afternoon for household things which were desperately needed; did the daily workout in 34 minutes.

Other: Found cute purple flip-flops on clearance at Ross for six bucks. Win!

    Wow, 95K is huge. Is that a publisher’s requirement or just the amount of space you think it will take to tell your story?

    I’m not sure what the contract requirement states – probably around 90k? That’s my guess. I always run over, though. First draft of this will likely be more like 105 or 110k.

    Anyway, that’s about the usual for this kind of book.
