Here’s today’s progress on the new steam-horror fin de siecle project about ghosts, guilt, elder gods, and monster-hunting in the aftermath of two gruesome murders:

    Project: (tentative title) Maplecroft
    Deadline: None
New words written: 2095 (not terrible)
Present total word count: 12,306 words

Things accomplished in fiction: The town doctor notices a pattern, or part of a pattern. Is two sick people a pattern, or a coincidence? Hard to say. He’ll probably need to spot a third or fourth victim with symptoms before his suspicions are confirmed. Good thing(?) there are plenty of other afflicted townspeople to observe and interrogate.

Things accomplished in real life: Lots of dayjob work; did my daily jaunt outside; pestered the kitty; cleaned up my plants out on the balcony; drove myself crazy trying to think of a new title for a separate project, which mostly just needs a new title before it’s actually sale-able, I think; spent more time than I should have surfing real estate porn in other cities.

Other: The daily “run” took about 35 minutes. The toe is much better, yes, but it still doesn’t enjoy the jostling of actual running — so I’ve incorporated the hills and other neighborhood features into the routine to make up for the lack of rigor. I’ll give this routine until Monday, and then see if I’m sound enough to dash once more.

Total Official Word Count of 2010: 35,362 words

  1. Glad to hear that the toe is on the improve. Our treadmill broke so I will be doing my first jog outside in about 6 months.
