Here’s today’s progress on the new steam-horror fin de siecle project about ghosts, guilt, elder gods, and monster-hunting in the aftermath of two gruesome murders:
Project: (tentative title) Maplecroft
Deadline: None
New words written: 1110
Present total word count: 3630 words
Things accomplished in fiction: Finished the first chapter. Now I get to wrestle with which segment to put next. This will be a little tricky, as the narrative is spread over two primary POV characters plus a couple secondary POVs. I suppose the structure of this project could best be described as “pseudo-epistolary.”
Things accomplished in real life: Unpacked; tidied house; sorted all receipts from being out-of-town for work; sat around and worked on Bloodshot rewrites most of the day. I will likely go back to working on it here in a little bit #norestforthewicked
Other: I think I’m going to change this project’s title again. As it gels in my head, its focus is starting to shift. I think I know how the story will really be shaped, and I suspect it will wind up named after the monster at its core.
Total Official Word Count of 2010: 26,686 words
