An afternoon full of trains

Today Caitlin and I hopped into the Cookie Monster for its inaugural jaunt out of town. We headed out to Snoqualmie — not the pass or the casino or the subdivision acres, but to the tiny frontier town with its adorable old train station, museum, and “downtown” strip.
(I don’t use the quotes to mock Snoqualmie’s downtown. The quotes indicate that this strip is pretty much one street. But it’s a lovely street, and I rather like the place. I’ve been there half a dozen times now, just to hang out and poke around.)
Anyway. The main official purpose for the trip was to acquire some new author photos for yours truly. Caitlin has an awesome camera, and she does a most excellent job of photography … and she works for peanuts. Or for lunch and a ride, and a cup of tea — as the case may be.
I’m going to place the results of our pictorial excursion behind a jump, because I’m just not quite narcissistic enough to want to see several big pictures of myself every time I load the page. I know, I know. I must be getting old or something. Anyway, click the link immediately below this paragraph to take a peek at them (or merely scroll down, if you’re reading this via a feed or direct link.)
As with all of these pictures, if you’re fond of fiddling about with Photoshop, you’re more than willing to help yourself. All I ask is that you (a). show me the final product, because I am nosy, and (b). credit the photographer, Caitlin Kittredge.
Anyway. This one is my favorite, and lead contender for New Book Jacket Photo:
I really love this one too, but it’s a shame about the table in the background. I don’t have the skillz to remove it via Photoshop, alas. But as mentioned above, I won’t stop anybody from taking a stab at it. A Livejournal friend fixed it for me. Many thanks, vanishdtwilight!
No, I was not supposed to be crawling around on all this stuff. But we were careful not to notice the sign that declared as much.
Ditto this stuff.
See also.
Anyway, if you’d like to look at the whole set you can find it here. Thanks again to Caitlin, and three cheers for author photos with blue and green hair. I say to you, HUZZAH.

I’m fully excited that your new author photos will sport your cool new ‘do, was wondering if you’d pull that off. :) I, too, am a fan of your first one shown above, but they really are all so lovely I don’t know how you can choose!

Aw, man! I now have severe hair envy!!!!!! I’ll have to think of a way to do something similar on a temporary basis (contract work = need to be corporate at the drop of a hat).
I adore them all. The one leaning on the train with one arm raised is really lovely. As is your fave. You are so photogenic!

I love the photos, you’re friend did a helluva job, and I love your outfit, makeup, hair, way to go!
btw, my niece is really really good with photoshop (she admins some PS renders forum,) I’m sure you’ve gotten a bunch of offers, but if not, contact me (geekgirlunveiled at gmail) and I’ll see if she can do your edit for you. She’s a teenager, I’m sure she could do it at 3am when the rest of us fogies are sleeping. :)

The pics came out wonderfully. :)
For a book jacket, I guess you’re looking for a portrait shot as opposed to a full or 3/4 shot? The 3/4 shots here look fantastic and the new ‘do looks fabulous.

It’s depressing, Cherie:
A) You write fabulous novels…
B) You are, and please forgive my honesty, incredibly hot…
C) Because of geography, time, circumstance and dozens of other factors – I will never get to ask you out for a beer… :o) x

May I nitpick? I just just love to nitpick photos… IMHO your pick is probably not the best pick for a book jacket. There are just too many dynamic range issues, esp with the blacks. I fear that on your left (viewer right) that your hair, hat, vest and the bg are all going to blend together, especially since I expect this will be converted to b&w for a book jacket. It would keep you from “popping,” and since it’s your pic on your jacket it should be all about you. I think # 2 offers some very nice crop possibilities, and your eyes (and mouth) convey a very interesting expression. DSC 0062 would be a good bet as well. You have a good expression, and you “pop” out from the bg (the bg is a bit dark, but that could easily be lightened; also the fact that it’s simple and provides a good contrast to you makes you stand out.) I like your expression in #4 above. It’s very thirties. Good luck with your selection!

Not a book publisher / layout type, but I second catfriend’s motion. You have more “pop” in front of the contrasting background of #2 or the last two (in front of the train). Also, for a steampunk novel, trains are, well, more steampunk-ish ;-)
