Post-Convention Post

I’m exhausted and still playing catch-up, so you get the lazy-girl convention post update — which is to say, I’ve stolen a bunch of pictures from the incomparable Alethea Kontis, and I’m going to post them beneath a cut with some captions.
Click the jump for Scalzi in a pirate costume, surprise party mayhem, and Mary Robinette Kowal explaining how she’s the Macgyver of penis puppetry.
First of all, Alethea’s Picassa album is right here. Go through it. Send her some love. It’s not difficult; she’s hot as hell and totally awesome.
Second, here goes.
As you know Bob (or as you might know, I don’t know), our beloved Wil Wheaton was too ill to attend. Through a round-about series of events, this caused John Scalzi to spend part of Saturday in a pirate costume.

But it was okay. Because then John got a surprise party, complete with an Old Man’s Cake. Happy 40th, Scalzi! With many happy returns.

It was a good party. Here I am with (left to right) Sarah Monette, Elizabeth Bear, and Sarah’s husband Allen.

I love, love, love this picture of (party-organizing maven) Doselle with Yanni and her husband Brian.

Behold, the lovely Yanni with her baby, and Dave Kletcha and his wife (also expecting a baby).

Here’s Scalzi engaging in cola wars with Jim Hines.

And me sitting on the floor while Mary explains to me and Sarah how, upon an occasion or two, she’s been the puppet woman in charge of creating, installing, and operating puppet penises. Apparently, a whole lot more goes into this task than you might expect.

Here’s me with Cult-Pop‘s Jim Hall. I don’t remember what was so funny, but with Jim around, it could’ve been just about anything.

I seem to have remembered something here. Now, I cannot recall what. Irony? Too much alcohol? Too little sleep? Oh, hell. Let’s run with “irony.”

I remember that there was a reason for this pic of me and Mary, but I can’t quite remember what that reason might’ve been. I think it had something to do with our fondness for cat feet, or bunny feet, or something.

Here’s Alethea and me at lunch on Sunday (pic taken by Doselle):

And Doselle’s picture of me holding Yanni’s baby on Sunday, while the cute little booger slept. I kept sliding down lower as she’d awaken and fuss, providing the 8-week-old tyrant the horizontal hold she seemed to require; after a couple of hours, I was halfway under the table. Babies. They’re just as bad as cats.

Anyway, that’s all I had time to steal and move to my own servers (so let it not be said that I’m an inconsiderate thief). Don’t forget, there are many, many more over at Alethea’s Picassa album. But as for me, for now, I’m outta here. Thanks for reading, and if I get more fun pictures, I’ll be sure to link or post them here.
:)

Re: the “cat” picture w/ you and Mary? I think you were about to re-enact the Jellicle Ball or start talking about practical cats. Just sayin.

Thanks Joe — I think ….
And Dave — Likewise! Lord willing and the creek don’t rise, I’ll catch you at the next one, too. :)
