I came home to a relatively clean apartment and an ecstatic cat, plus one wholly apathetic fish. All the living creatures were superbly cared for by Suezie and Ellen* … and the apartment was immediately trashed by me, as I hastily, half-heartedly unpacked and flung myself into bed.

Morning revealed what I should’ve remembered sooner — that we hadn’t bought groceries before we left town, lest we come home to a fridge full of rotten goods. So I spent most of the day trying to get my home wrestled back into shape, complete with food-shopping and bed-making, bill-paying, and a brief contemplation of laundry (verdict: it’ll wait).

As some of you are a little too acutely aware, I’ve been quite ill off and on for the last month or so, and I’m relieved to report that I’m doing much better now that I’m back on home turf … erm … except for the massive allergy attack and the possible sinus infection that has now taken hold of my head. I’m sucking down helpful pills and vitamin bombs in order to try and fight it off without a trip to the doctor. If I’m no better by next week, I’ll make an appointment on Monday. I’m stubborn, yes; but I’m not crazy.

Hmm.
What else?
Well, let’s see.

I had an exceedingly helpful conversation with my editor as well as a promising brunch with a second Tor editor (also very nice), and now I have writing things that I simply must tackle. I’m trying to scare up a good proposal for one, and finish an unrelated project for the other; and this would all be a whole lot easier if my sinuses would drain and if the cat would un-peel herself from my face.

I’ve been home for about 20 hours now, and although I appreciate that Spainy is happy to see me and can assure her that the feeling is mutual, I’ve got work to do.

Anyway, here are a few pictures from DragonCon, beneath the cut.

I don’t have many, and all of these are stolen from Glas, one of my roommates (unless otherwise noted). If you have pictures of me and mah homies hanging around, just taking up space on your memory cards, feel free to kick ‘em my way.

Here’s the aforementioned Glas, with sexy librarian Jill.

Speaking of roommates, here’s Laura and Mike.

And me with Caitlin Kittredge, who crashed with us on Thursday — but transferred to the less crowded space of Spyder for the remainder of the convention. Speaking of dear Ms. Spyder, I don’t have any pictures of her handy. Anybody want to contribute one? Or two?

Here we have the Cifarellis — Andrew and Paulina, respectively — plus me and Aric.

I have no idea what I was doing in this picture. I just remember something about Glas telling me to hold still and look innocent. Or something. I was dressed more or less normally because this was Saturday, before the Decatur Book Festival.

To those who may complain about the lack of “dress-up” shots, I give you the knowledge that you’re not missing anything. On the one evening when I did dress up I was wearing this — exactly what I wore while out with Caitlin the other day.

this is also one of my faves

In the end, I didn’t bring the nurse costume. I didn’t have room, and I wasn’t confident that it was finished.

If you want to see a picture or two of me at the Decatur Book Festival with the guys, click here. The panel seemed to go pretty well, really. I’ve seen some friendly buzz about it here and there, on the internets.

Okay. That’s all I’ve got for now.
I’m going to go take some more pills, drink some more vitamin supplements, and try to give this pitch another go. I’ll try to catch up with everyone tomorrow.

* Suezie moreso than Ellen, I’m afraid; Ellen became terribly ill and Suezie was left with whole-building cat-duty. She deserves mad props and at least, I don’t know, like, brunch or something. I shall make this happen, one of these days soon.

I recently changed the house rules to allow my cats to come into the main floor of the house (previously they were relegated to my room, which is a giant attic, but still not as big as a whole house). I’ve increased tissue usage by 63%.

Good luck on the project and the proposal!

Also, that photo of you looking guil–I mean, innocent–is one of the best ever. It looks like something really funny just happened and we’re missing it. (I’ll just make it up. It has to do with sharks and Republicans.)
