I have no idea how to sum up DragonCon, except to say that it was deeply, truly awesome. Con reports tend to make for dense reading that’s only delightful to those who are namechecked, so (a). let me check a few names, and (b). I’ll try to keep this short.
I saw many, many old friends and I did verily squee myself stupid several hundred times. Most of the long weekend was spent in the company of Aric, Spyder, Caitlin Kittredge, Glas, Laura and Mike, and Denny, with significant portions of debauchery and fun also taking place with John Scalzi, Tobias Buckell, and the unstoppable Liz.
I dressed up like an aviatrix, jaunted to the Decatur Book Festival, hugged a cast of thousands, did a bunch of panels, collected fat sacks of schwag, accumulated birthday presents for my dad, hung out in the guest suite where the food was actually pretty good, talked myself hoarse, played Hyatt/Marriot tour guide, met an exceedingly nice new Tor editor or two, spent a groovy coffee/brunch with my own amazing editor, and bought a black wig with blue highlights for giggles.
Then my husband and I rented a car and drove up to Kentucky, where we spent the afternoon continuing to be hyper-social (with a totally different crowd) at my dad’s 60th birthday party. His birthday isn’t technically until next week, but that didn’t stop us. Tomorrow there will be lazy shopping and idle goofing off, and perhaps I’ll scare up a kitty picture or two (of the divine Mr. Peanut, my dad/stepmom’s cat); and on Wednesday we have to fly west and return to our normal lives.
So shall my all-too-brief vacation come to an end — and it is the sort of vacation from which I shall surely need a vacation to recover. It’ll be nice to see Spainy again, though. (These last few days she’s been in the highly capable hands of Ellen and Suezie.) I’ve missed the fat little foot-warmer, and I’ll be glad to lovingly squish her once more while she struggles for dramatic effect.
But for now, I’m going to retire from the internet in favor of television and family time, so I’ll catch up to everyone later.

Cherie, I was glad to see you at DragonCon, you were just as nice as I suspected you would be. Glad you had a great time, too…maybe I’ll see you next year? Hope so, I’m planning to do the full weekend next year :-)
