April Fool’s Day without a punchline, 2008

Once again, I suppose I’ll begin this post with the random bits. Tonight, as previously mentioned, Jim Butcher will be reading/signing at the University District bookstore here in Seattle. Come on out and hear him. I predict that this will be a hoot. Likewise hoot-worthy: honorary Team Seattle member Mario Acevedo is the guest author at the Barnes & Noble paranormal bookclub. If you’re a member, stop by and say hello.

Anyway, since this is what’s eaten up the bulk of my work time, here’s today’s progress on the west coast steampunk Victoriana book with zombies, air ships, toxic gas clouds, mad scientists, dead folk heroes, secret criminal societies, and Bonus! extended deleted scenes from the Civil War:

Project: The Boneshaker
Resolution revised: Still writing every day, as planned.
New Words: 2707 (not great, but not bad)
Present Total Word Count: 55,308 words
Goal: 100,000 words by July 1

Things Accomplished in Fiction: Was chased by zombies; busted up Lucy O’Gunning’s mechanical arm; reached “the vaults,” which is something like an underground hotel; settled in and prepared to receive a bit of creepy exposition.

Darling du Jour: “There was no unkindness in his face, but there was no room for negotiation, either.”

Things Accomplished in Real Life: Attempted to reach the EPA again and failed; wrote Part Two of four-part freelance assignment which is due on Friday; didn’t do much else. Yes, this (combined with the fiction writing) took all day. Sometimes that’s how it goes.

Reason for Stopping: Need to freshen up and get started on Part Three of the freelance project before it’s time to head over to the U-district. Besides, I could use a break. Maybe I’ll eat some leftover easter candy or something.

Total Fiction Words Composed in 2008: 123,908
