bad writer. no cookie.

This is usually the part of my afternoon where I sit down and make mention of my daily word count … but today, that word count is pretty much zilch. If you want the truth, I’m feeling a little sulky about it; but I had a thousand and one small things to tackle, and one by one, they ate up my writing time. The analogy of being nibbled to death by ducks springs to mind.

Even so, it’s been an awfully productive Friday. I fixed all the small and demanding things that needed fixing, I did a a bit of last-minute freelance work, signed a bunch of papers, mailed a bunch of things, repaired some of the odder problems with my website’s new design* (again, Greg. My apologies!), and responded to half a dozen emails that have been sitting in my inbox for longer than I am comfortable admitting.

But anyway, the wordcount on the latest fiction project-in-progress remains the same. I don’t mean to sound secretive, I’m just feeling superstitious about discussing it in public — and I’m not even sure why. Suffice it to say, it’s a project that (a). no one is paying me to write, (b). no one has invited me to write, and (c). I almost certainly won’t have time to finish before other (paying) gigs come due.

But once in awhile, you’ve just got to do it for the love.
