No work today on Not Flesh Nor Feathers – because I took some time to wrap up drafts on a couple of other projects: “Little Wards” (for TEoP) – finished up Draft #1 and revised it up to Draft #2 status, then sent it off to the editor there; and a new version of The Wreck of the Mary Byrd, which was sent off to Subterranean a few minutes ago.
I really do think it might be fun – at some point in the future, after NFNF is wrapped up – to turn Mary Byrd into a series of two or three novellas featuring one of the same characters. I really love this story. It’s exactly what I want it to be – tragic, Victorian, violent, bleak, and riddled with werewolves. What’s not to like? How could I not want to keep writing on it?
But that’s something to think about later. Now – and tomorrow, and the days following that, I need to bang out a solid draft for the third Eden book.

As I mentioned over on my LJ, I’ve been mildly under the weather for the last couple of days and it’s made for slow progress. I don’t know if it’s allergies or a cold brought home by my husband – who is working a new job, and therefore likely to acquire exciting new germs. But he seems to be ailing as well, so it could be anything.
Today I hauled myself out of the apartment, though, and I’ve been sitting at Aurafice (local coffeeshop) fighting my way through the snot and apathy to compose thrilling new words for Not Flesh Nor Feathers. It’s been working, more or less. I finally crested the 50K mark, and now I think I’m going to knock off and go get lunch. I’ll return to productivity this afternoon, but it will probably be productivity on other projects – “Little Wards” or possibly more clean-up on The Wreck of the Mary Byrd. Anyway, here’s a word meter for NFNF.
Stick a fork in me, ‘cuz I’m done with this one for the day.

Don’t you just hate it when you get really cool news and you can’t share it yet because it’s not official? God knows I do. But for now, I give you a progress report on Not Flesh Nor Feathers:
The rest of the day has been devoted to reworking The Wreck of the Mary Byrd, which is also coming along nicely. That reminds me – with the removal of the frame story, I’m totally going to have to work up some new cover flappage for that one. Hmm …
