I’m everywhere!

I’m just now starting to hear about myself from other people, which is surreal and groovy at the same time.

Yesterday I got an email from old pal Jeremiah McCoy — who had been listening to a favorite podcast the other day when the DJs began talking about my book. I don’t know what they said, but it must have been good; McCoy says they were talking about maybe bringing me on for an interview. I’ve passed their contact information along to my publicist [:: waves at Dot ::] so maybe something pleasant will come out of that. They’re in Arizona, though. I guess we can talk by phone.

Then last night Jym and I went to Barnes & Nobles to poke around after supper, and I was accosted by one of the managers there — a guy named Keith. Keith recognized me from my book jacket as “someone who’s in here all the time,” and he turned out to be friends/former coworkers with my old friend Derek. They’d been talking about me that very afternoon. Keith invited me to sign some books.

I felt a little self-conscious about it, standing there at the customer service desk with a pen while customers stared at me. Truth to tell, I’d long entertained the though of dashing through the store like a ninja autographer, but what if somebody caught me? What if they thought I was some crazy person who got jollies from stalking the stacks with a little orange Sharpie … arbitrarily bedecking other people’s tomes with fake signatures? How embarrassing! But since I had permission and stuff, I scrawled my name and the date across the remaining stock. Keith was kind enough to answer a few of my questions about how Barnes & Nobles works, and he invited me to contact another manager there about a signing later on. I probably will, but not anytime in the next few weeks. I’m all booked up, dammit.

And just when I think I can’t possibly squeeze in another thing, another thing comes along with a shoehorn.

Today at work I got a phone call from Karen over at A Novel Idea — where I’m doing a signing on Saturday from noon – 2:00. Karen is friends with Jeff Styles, a local talk radio personality of good repute. Jeff had been visiting her store and the topic of local authors came up … yada yada yada … I’m going to be on the radio tomorrow. WGOW 102.3 FM, Chattanooga area. 10:00 a.m. or there-abouts. Kudos and thanks to my longsuffering employers, who are letting me out of work to do this.

Speaking of my day job … I’d better get back to it before I use up all of my employers’ goodwill.
